LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT, CHERYL SCUORZO

The Italian American Association of Monmouth County is an organization that was formed to promote the Italian American Culture. This is evident through the events that we sponsor such as Tombola, La Befana, Carnevale, Ferragosto, Italian lessons for young children, teens, and adults. We also feature an Italian Summer Enrichment camp for two weeks in the summer where children, learn the Italian language, Italian cooking and perform a showcase of songs and plays in Italian at the end of the program. Members meet every Tuesday night in the spring to enjoy a game of bocce! Monthly meetings keep members updated, provide opportunities to socialize with fellow Italians and occasionally feature guest speakers that target different aspects of Italian culture, heritage, and reminders of the adversity, discrimination and challenges our ancestors overcame that define the proud and accomplished ethnic group that we are today.

In addition, our club donates to a variety of charities such as veteran organizations, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Monmouth Medical Center Children's Cancer Ward, Centra State Cancer Division, Toys for Tots, Monmouth Food Pantry and Smile Train. We also award a minimum of 5 Scholarships each year to deserving students of Italian descent that reside in Monmouth County. We also participate in community events such as Marlboro Multicultural Day, the Marlboro Memorial Day Parade, and the Columbus Day Parade in Seaside Heights, NJ which we not only sponsor and support, but decorate a float each year and march to show our pride in our heritage.

Our membership is a very warm and welcoming group. I am very proud to serve as president of the Italian American Association of Monmouth County. Check our events page for upcoming events. All are welcome!

Respectfully,
Cheryl Scuorzo
IAA President
