LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT, CHERYL SCUORZO

Italian culture is very rich in art, music, literature, the sciences and, of course, cuisine. Italians and Italian Americans have made great contributions to civilization as a whole. A great number of Italian Americans served our country during World War II. The Italians in Italy during that war hid many Jewish families from the Germans at the risk of putting their own families in danger simply because it was the right thing to do. This reflects the Italian people's love and respect for life. Italians and Italian Americans have much to be proud of.

The IAA is an organization whose members share a vision of building a legacy for their children and fellow Italians to perpetuate the heritage and traditions that they so love and remember from their own childhood. The organization is beginning its fifth year of existence and has grown to over 200 members and offers scholarships, Italian lessons for children and adults, cultural events such as Carnevale, La Befana and Tombola , cooking lessons, trips and of course, a wonderful, annual Italian Festival.

I have been an active member since its inception and am very proud to have been elected president of this organization for the years 2011 and 2012. I look forward to continuing the work we have begun as an organization and will continue that vision of passing on the rich Italian culture and traditions that I also have a passion for.

Italians have truly influenced civilization in the areas of art, music, literature and, of course, cuisine. That being said, our organization is committed to portraying Italians and  Italian Americans in the positive light that they truly deserve.

Membership is open to anyone 21 years of age and older. It is a great organization to be a part of to connect with Italian culture and to make many new and wonderful friendships.
